A famous Turkish poet once asked his painter friend to create a picture of “happiness.”
The painter painted a poor family sleeping peacefully together on an old, creaking bed. One leg of the bed was broken and supported by two bricks. Their small, worn-out house had a leaking roof. Even their dog was curled up beside them, sleeping peacefully.
Yet, there was something beautiful in that scene—they were together, safe, and at peace.
The painting became unforgettable because it captured a truth we often forget:
Happiness is not having everything perfect. Happiness is appreciating what you have, accepting what you cannot change, and finding peace despite life’s difficulties.
Not every problem needs to be solved today.
Not every situation is within your control.
And not every difficult chapter will last forever.
Happiness is not a life without problems. It is the peace you find in the middle of them.
So, when life feels heavy, my beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, pause and notice the blessings God has given you: the people you love, the roof over your head, a warm meal, a quiet moment, and a reason to smile.
Sometimes, happiness is simply being grateful for what remains.
Be content with what God has given you. Be grateful for His blessings. Be at peace, trusting in His care. May your heart always find happiness in His goodness. ❤️
