Are You Not Worth More Than an iPhone?

There was a young girl who was saving up all her money, so she could buy an iPhone. After months of saving, she finally bought an iPhone. When her father saw it, he asked her, “What was the first thing you did after buying the phone?”

She said, “I put an anti-scratch sticker and bought a cover for the phone.”

He said, “Did someone force you to do so?” She said, “No.”

The father asked her, “Did you think it was an insult to the manufacturer?” She said, “No, it was recommended that a cover be used on the phone.”

“Did you cover it because it was cheap and ugly?”

“No daddy, actually I covered it because I did not want any damage to it or what would devalue the phone.”

“When you put the cover, did it reduce the iPhone beauty?”

“Daddy I think it looks better and worth it for the protection it gives to my new iPhone.”

The father looked lovingly at his daughter and said, “If I had asked you to cover your body which is much more precious than your iPhone, would you have readily agreed?”

She was quiet….

My Tewahedo Orthodox sister, are you not worth more than an iPhone? Indecent dressing and exposure of your body reduces your value and respect. Please honor your self worth by dressing appropriately at all times and not just on Sunday mornings. And just because the style of clothing is approved by the world, it doesn’t mean it’s approved by God.

Always remember, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own. For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV).

  1. Our worth and value in the eyes of God is immeasurable, incapable of being diminished, and due each others’ Christ-commanded respect regardless of how we treat ourselves or how people choose to see us. We have no choice or say in that matter, that’s for sure! Nevertheless, if someone was to throw my Samsung into the sea, it would matter very much to the other because it was bought at a price, in likeness to the way that Jesus Christ spilt His precious blood onto the ground for our sake. It’s important that we dress with intention and in a way that is mindful and reflective of our hilina, and in that, both our subconscious and conscious. I agree that everyone should dress in a way that reflects inward humility and pleases God while simultaneously expressing ourselves! However, we shouldn’t sacrifice that freedom of choice when we expose ourselves in our most vulnerable and sacred state, which we lost grace for when Adam and Eve first sinned and we obtain that grace again after the resurrection of our Lord and Savior!
