Standing Beside the Cross: The Strength of St. Mary

My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, there are moments in life when the heart trembles. Yet in the holy image of our Blessed Mother, St. Mary, standing at the foot of the Cross as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was crucified, we are given a living icon of offering and sacred surrender.

Her life was marked by a depth of sorrow that words cannot fully hold, yet she did not turn away. She trusted. Even when her soul was pierced with grief, she remained anchored in the divine will of God. Nothing she endured was wasted; her suffering was gathered into the mystery of salvation, becoming part of God’s redemptive work for all humanity.

At the foot of the Cross, St. Mary offered what no mother could ever easily give: she beheld her beloved Son pour out His life for a world that would not always love Him. And still, she did not resist the will of God. With humility, obedience, and unwavering devotion, she surrendered fully, trusting that God’s purpose was greater than her pain.

But there is a deeper faith, a steadfast faith, the kind our Blessed Mother embodied. Her faith was quiet, yet unshakable. It did not strive for recognition, yet it endured the greatest trial. It was a faith rooted in who God is.

This is the faith we are called to seek, my sister. A faith that remains steady in suffering, gentle in spirit, and deeply rooted in trust. A faith that does not collapse under sorrow, but is refined through it.

May we learn from her holy example, to trust when we do not understand, to stand when everything within us wants to fall, and to offer our lives fully to God.

May the peace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ guard your heart. And may the prayers and intercession of our Blessed Mother, St. Mary, surround you, strengthen you, and keep you steadfast in His love always.
