My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, when you die, do not be worried about your body. It will be prepared in love and faith: washed, clothed in white, and brought to the holy church. There, the priests will lead the funeral service, the deacons will chant the Psalms, and the faithful will lift up prayers for your soul. Afterward, your body will be carried with dignity to its resting place.
Many will come to your funeral. Some will shed tears, others will simply “pay their respects.” Your belongings: your clothes, jewelry, books, even the things you once guarded carefully will no longer belong to you. They will be given away, sold, or forgotten. Your job will be filled by another. Life will continue as though you had never been here.
Yes, some will remember you, but even the closest friends will eventually move on. The laughter will return, the world will keep spinning, and your name will be spoken less and less.
Your beauty, your possessions, your status, your career, your bank account, your medals, your trophies, none of these will follow you. As it is written:
“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (1 Timothy 6:7).
On that day, only the treasures you laid up in heaven will matter. For our Lord said:
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19–21).
My sister, is your life bearing the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, humility, purity, forgiveness, and devotion? Or are you chasing the trophies of this world?
Once we die, there is no going back. There will be no return, no redo, no undo. When you stand before Christ, the question will not be how much money you earned, how admired you were, or how many degrees you collected. The question will be:
“Did you love Me? Did you serve me? Did you live a life of repentance, faith, and mercy?”
This world is passing away. So, while you still have breath, live with eternity in mind. Love sincerely, forgive quickly, and walk humbly with God. Pray without ceasing, fast with faith, carry your cross with courage, and store up treasures in heaven.
Do not waste your life chasing what will soon fade. In the end, you will not take what you owned. You will only take what you gave, and how faithfully you lived for Christ.
Live well, my sister. Live a life that honors God in everything, both great and small. Let your days be a testimony of Christ’s light within you, so that when your time comes, you may stand before Him with joy.
Let this be your daily reminder: each time God blesses you with a new day, live it to the fullest with dignity, faith, love, and joy. For we do not know the hour that will be our last. So, let every moment be lived in a way that honors God.
And always, my sister, live with eternity in mind.
