Shine Anyway

My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, one of the most important lessons I’ve learned is this: no matter how kind, loving, or faithful you are, not everyone will like you—and that’s perfectly okay. You must be at peace with that truth.

You could be a bright ray of sunshine, yet some people will still prefer the rain. Some hearts simply aren’t ready to receive your light, and that is not your burden to carry. Don’t stress, worry, or lose sleep over it. Never let the opinions, misunderstandings, or dislikes of others dim the light God has placed within you.

Even when you are gentle, loving, and giving, some people may still not accept you. That doesn’t mean you are unlikable—it simply means not everyone shares the same heart as you. Some are filled with envy or jealousy, others with bitterness, and some simply do not want to see you shine. And that’s okay, because you cannot—and are not meant to—change those hearts.

So, keep shining anyway. Let your heart overflow with kindness, patience, and faith, always reflecting God’s love, goodness, and truth. Let your love for God and others radiate in every action, word, and thought. As our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reminds us:

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)

Regardless of who likes you or who doesn’t, God sees you. He sees your light, your efforts, and the love you carry in your heart. People’s opinions may change from day to day, but God’s view of you never changes. You are His beloved daughter, deeply loved no matter what, and your worth will never be measured by human approval.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ also said: “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you” (John 15:18). Christ was perfect in every way, yet He was still rejected by many. So if people misunderstand, reject, or dislike you, remember—you are walking the same path that our Lord Himself walked. And that’s okay, because we are not here to be liked; we are here to shine God’s light.

So no matter what, shine anyway, my beautiful sister. God rejoices when you do.
