Social Media & Your Heart: Don’t Be Deceived

My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, guard your heart from the illusion of social media.

Instagram posts and Facebook reels can quietly plant seeds in your mind. They show the “perfect” house — gold kitchen utensils, gold and white décor, spotless counters, luxury vacations, fancy cars, walk-in closets overflowing with brand-name shoes, purses, and even designer sunglasses.

It all sparkles.

But my sister… sparkle is not the same as peace.

What you often do not see is the loneliness behind the camera.
You do not see the tears after the photo is taken.
You do not see the silent depression, the arguments, the anxiety, the messy rooms carefully cropped out of the frame.

Social media shows highlights — not reality.

As Tewahedo Orthodox Christian women, we are called to something deeper than appearances. The world teaches us to collect more. Christ teaches us to give more.

If we have two pairs of shoes, we give one to someone who needs it.
If we have bread, we share it.
If we have warmth, we offer it.

That is true beauty.

A Christian home is not defined by gold utensils or matching white furniture. A Christian home is a safe haven — a place of prayer, humility, forgiveness, and love. It does not matter what color the utensils are, as long as there is food to cook. It does not matter how big the closet is, as long as there are clothes to wear. It does not matter how expensive the car is, as long as it takes you where you need to go.

If there is food in your fridge, that is a blessing.
If there is a roof over your head, that is a blessing.
If there is peace in your heart, that is a treasure no brand name can buy.

Do not measure your life against curated images. Measure it by your faith, your kindness, your generosity, and your closeness to Christ.

The most beautiful home is the one where God dwells. And my sister, a heart full of Christ shines brighter than any gold kitchen utensil ever could.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
