My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, we always picture Noah being safe because he built the ark exactly as God commanded. But Genesis 7:16 reminds us of something even deeper: “So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the Lord shut him in.”
Did you catch that? Even after Noah obeyed, worked hard, and prepared, it wasn’t his effort that ultimately kept him safe, it was God Himself who sealed him inside. The floodwaters couldn’t touch him, because the Lord shut the door and kept him hidden.
That’s such a powerful reminder for us. We often think our safety comes from the locks on our doors, our wisdom in making choices, or our healthy routines. Of course, those things matter, but the truth is—our true protection comes only from God. Just like Noah, you are safe not because of your strength, but because God Himself shuts you in, surrounds you, and keeps Satan out.
How comforting is that? To know that when you pray before bed, it’s not merely the lock on your door that keeps you safe, it’s God covering you with His mercy. When you drive, it’s not only your careful skills, it’s His hand guiding you safely. When you pray, eat, and care for your body, remember it’s not the food that sustains you, but God who gives life and breath. Never forget that each safe arrival and peaceful return is one of His quietest yet greatest blessings.
So, my beautiful sister, rest in this truth: our heavenly Father is the One who seals you in His love. The waters may rise, the storms may rage, but as long as God has shut you in, nothing can break through.
Keep praying. Keep trusting God. He will never fail you!
“The Lord will preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”
