“You still have 20 years left…” Sounds reassuring!
Hopeful, even. But when you hear, “you only have 20 summers left.” That shifts our soul. It awakens you. Only 20 more times to feel sunlight on your skin while hearing the hummingbirds sing. Only 20 more evenings to watch the day stretch long and golden. Only 20 more chances—if the Lord wills (James 4:15).
And autumn?
Maybe only 20 more times to watch the leaves turn red, orange and yellow. Only 20 more walks through leaves that crunch like memories beneath your feet, each step a quiet echo of seasons past. Only 20 more chances to feel the wind kiss your skin, to let it tangle your hair and remind you that you’re alive, fragile, fleeting, but still here. Still breathing. Still being pursued by grace.
Winter—
20 more seasons to wrap yourself in stillness, to listen to God in the silence. To watch snow fall like grace over all things.
Spring—
Maybe only 20 more chances to watch life rise again from the cold as Spring whispers “I’m here” through tulips breaking open and soil softening with grace.
Or maybe not 20.
Maybe not even 5.
Maybe… this is your last season. Your last sunrise. Your final chance to say: “I forgive you.” Your last whisper of “I love you.”
My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, we walk this earth as if we are eternal in this body. But from dust we came, and to dust we shall return (Genesis 3:19). This body is not forever. This moment is not guaranteed. Yet we delay our purpose, postponing the very reason we were created. We say, “Someday I’ll serve God. Someday I’ll follow Him. Someday I’ll go to Church. Someday I’ll truly live a true Christian.” But what if someday never comes? What if the only time you have… is now?
What if this is the last morning you wake with breath in your lungs? The last sunrise your eyes will ever see. The final moment you have to kneel, heart trembling, and whisper, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” What if this is your last chance to repent, to surrender, to return?
This is a divine urgency, my sister. A sacred call to wake up to live fully aware that every heartbeat is borrowed and every moment a gift. The wisdom of numbering our days (Psalm 90:12). So don’t waste today. Now is the time…To forgive. To repent. To worship. To offer your life not someday, but today as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God (Romans 12:1).
To live with eyes fixed not on what is seen, but on what is unseen (2 Corinthians 4:18). Because one day will be your last. But until then, let each moment rise like incense to Heaven. Live with intention, honoring God in every thought, every word, every action. Any second could be your last breath, your last prayer, your final offering. So make it holy. Make it count. Let your life be a living liturgy – sacred, surrendered, and full of grace. Don’t wait for someday. Return now—while mercy is still calling.
Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord;
Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
—Psalm 40:11—
