Your words can crush a soul or inspire a life. Your words can even shatter a person’s future. A single careless comment, a whispered lie, a harsh insult, or a moment of anger can leave wounds far deeper than we will ever see. Yet, just as powerfully, your words can heal, restore, and breathe hope into weary hearts. A kind word, a gentle encouragement, or a loving reminder of God’s truth can bring light into someone’s darkest moments.
The Bible tells us, ‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit’ (Proverbs 18:21). Our words carry great weight — they truly can either bring life or cause harm. That’s why it’s so important to choose them wisely. As followers of Christ, we are called to speak with love, wisdom, and grace, using our words to build others up rather than tear them down.
My beautiful Tewahedo Orthodox sister, before we speak, we should ask ourselves: Will these words bring life or destruction? Will they encourage or discourage? Will they reflect Christ’s love or push someone further from Him? When we choose words that are kind, honest, and full of grace, we reflect the heart of God and become instruments of His peace.
Let’s strive to be mindful of the power we hold in our tongues, using it to glorify God and encourage others. Remember, as a beloved daughter of the King of Kings, your words are meant to reflect His love — bringing life and joy to those around you.
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
